I have taken a medical transcription course in the hopes of being a work-at-home transcriptionist. Technically it is challenging because you have to learn medical terms like diseases and conditions, drugs, etc. You’ve got to have a good ear and be able to type fast to succeed in transcription. I did enjoy the experience but along the way I learned about blogging. Needless to say blogging got me hooked!

Transcription is a nice home-based job but it require special skills. Fortunately, there are training centers that will train you to become a transcriptionist.

very helpful article. I recommend trying http://www.guru.com, I’ve had some success with freelance jobs there. It’s also a great way for people just starting out to get experience and references from employers.

Thank you Alan, and Loretta for the information. We need more resources like these. I’m a work at home mom myself when I decided I could make money from freelance writing. My clients are mostly in the transcription business trying to promote their sites.

I encourage anybody who’s been laid off to try and freelance or start a home business in transcription, writing, or even programming. There’s a huge demand out there and you can make decent money with some commitment and discipline.

Has anyone tried FindTranscriptionwork.com? It seems suspicious to find a free site like this, and I ust wondered if anyone had had any bad experiences with it.
