3 Ways to Make Money at Home Using Photoshop

If you’re at home all day after you drop the kids off at school, why not try earning a little money on the side by gaining some valuable skills and putting them to use. If you’re a creative person, a good way to earn some extra money at home is by learning some expert Photoshop skills and selling your talents not only to friends and family, but also over the internet as a freelancer. If you get really good, you might even be able to open your own business.

Photoshop Skills

Photoshop is a very powerful program that has a lot of great features for mending or restoring photographs, removing blemishes, or creating compelling graphics for websites, but it is also very complicated to use. Photoshop is one of those programs that takes real skill to use well, and if you want to earn money by using Photoshop, you should look into to taking a class from a local community college or adult education program. Believe me, the small amount of money it takes to pay for the class will really pay off in the end. Buying the actual program (usually over $600) is a little pricey, but it will pay for itself once you start using your skills to bring in some good money.

Business Ideas

Below I’ll cover 3 different ways that you can make money using Photoshop. All it takes is a desire to learn a new skill-set, and you’ll be well on your way to working from home doing something you enjoy. You may just be surprised at how many people are looking for people that have these skills.

Photo Editing and Restoring

Most people are not professional photographers, and to get the perfect shot they’ll often need photo-editing services. From removing blemishes to creating unique lighting and coloring schemes, you can earn some great cash. In addition, once you learn the tricks to efficiently using Photoshop, you can help people restore old photos. Photo editing and restoration can bring in $40 – $100 per photo, depending on the size and difficulty.

Graphic Design

Although the workforce is shrinking, the amount of work that needs to be done is not, so as employers let their full-time staff go, they turn to freelancers to help them get the job done. One of the biggest freelance opportunities on the internet today is graphic design for websites. A lot of e-freelancing sites are hiring thousands of freelance graphic designers and Photoshop experts every month, and you could be among them if you take the time to learn the skills necessary to be a great graphic designer with Photoshop. Entry-level graphic designers earn $15/hr or more, and the price goes up the more experience you have.

T-Shirt Design

There is a huge market out there of parents and grandparents who want their child or grandchild’s picture on a t-shirt. With your newly acquired Photoshop skills, you can help transform their dreams into reality working with a local t-shirt printer. But, beyond kids’ pictures, there is a large market for t-shirt design for school sports teams, clubs, conventions, and a lot more.

Learning the ins, outs, tricks, and shortcuts of Photoshop is not easy. It will take some practice and patience, but the payoff could be huge if you can freelance your skills or start your own business.

@Gunter, No problem, tweeted again. :)

I read all MMO posts on blogs I trust, just in case. LOL

Seriously though, I’ve always wanted to learn Photoshop; my graphical ability is less then zero if that’s possible, it’s one of a few things I outsource.

Put it this way, if I were to take time off to learn it, I’d actually have to take time off to learn it…I don’t think I could do that.

All the more reason for me to learn PS more effectively, so I can do this kind of thing. Thanx!

@Danny, Glad you liked the article! Photoshop is a great tool and you can create some really awesome things with it. Thanks for commenting Danny! :)

I know some photoshop but nothing really fancy, and I think I don’t have an artistic part because I always get some odd looking pictures after I work with it :).

And I think even if I would be an expert without someone telling me exactly what they want I wouldn’t be able to create something beautiful.

I think I can manage 3 of the methods you mentioned but I am not into graphics so I will let other to this work :D.

@Alex, I think that’s how everybody is when they are first learning to use the program. I’ve gotten some weird looking pictures out of it too. I find it very entertaining though. Thanks for the comment! :D

I used to use DreamWeaver (after they dumped GoLive) before converting to WordPress. I use InDesign (against my will, when they dropped FrameMaker (for the Mac)). I used Illustrator for tee design and other things. But Photoshop … I just haven’t used enough to get past the learning curve. Not very intuitive IMO.

It would be great to work from home using Photoshop only. Too bad my Photoshop skill is not that good, otherwise it would be more than excellent. Haha…

@Jasmine@Top Web Hosts,

Hahaha! Yeah, I’m not that great with Photoshop either. But I’m sure that there are classes out there that you could take to improve your skills.

[Reply]

yeah I agree with you… T-shirt designing is a huge market now. i see alot of online sellers who are t-shirts with unique and funny comment designs. My sister-in-law in fact is one of them, and as from here, she’s getting a great profit from it.

@Angelique,

Thanks for the comment. I’m glad to hear that your sister-in-law is making some money out of it. It is a great business. Plenty of people like to have customized t-shirts. If you know how to do it, you could design your own t-shirts for family reunions – i know those are pretty popular.

[Reply]

I am just learning photoshop and I am doing it because I want to make some cartoons from my photos. From those 3 ways you have suggested I found graphic design and t-shirt design as attractive. I would go for t-shirt design :) It is useful for editing video frames too.

Photoshop is a very complicated process. One needs passion and dedication in order to take full advantage of this but in my place I know it’s really a hit that I will really try hard to learn more about this, that’s the reason why I landed on this page. Thank you for this helpful article.

I have always tried to learn photoshop but it hasn’t really worked for me.
So, anything design or graphics apparently means outsourcing for me.

@Brian @ vacancies in nigeria,

Outsourcing isn’t a bad thing if you can get the work done much faster than you could doing it yourself.

I also recommend learning Dreamweaver if you want to apply your Photoshop skill in web design.

Ahh… that’s one program I never played with before. I always just use Microsoft FrontPage when editing web pages.

company logos are also a good way to earn money using photoshop.

[Reply]

Other than editing some family videos and photos I’ve not done much with Photoshop. With some knowledge and passion photoshop can become a source of earning , like the T-shirt ideas you mentioned. I have some personalized ones and it gives a unique feeling to wear it.

[Reply]

Photoshop is indeed one of the best way to earn money online. Jobs vary and you might be asked to create a website design out from photoshop, creating logos or designing logos. It pays good salary and as a matter of fact, it’s really in demand.

Absolutely interesting and worth’s reading! Very effective method! I agree with the fact making money has became a very huge domain and being successful with it will require many steps and secrets, as you said “real proven techniques”! Thank you for the points mentioned.Thanks for sharing….
