Importance of appearance is definitely overlooked by many. Not only it should be appealing to the eye but also functional for people to actually want to come back and read the blog content again

I agree, an incentive of some sort can be very helpful. I see many big-name bloggers doing this. I have yet to get my OWN e-book written, but I do offer a free newsletter with many free downloads. Hopefully my e-book will see the light of day in the near future.

I agree with what Jason wrote. There are now a lot of blogs that are worth following and it will soon be impossible to follow all of them. Providing an incentive to your followers might help. Great guest post there Alan, I dropped a quick comment as well getting visitors to be converted as followers is kind of hard these days, knowing that there are a lot of good blogs around to follow. I think the most effective way to do that is to give your new visitors free stuffs in order for them to come back and read more of your tips.
