Unfortunately, the Webmaster’s Challenge I eluded to in this post has been canceled. However, I’m going to continue with my previous plans for building my niche site, walking you through every step of the process.

Even though there won’t be any official prize ($3,000 in cash total), the true prize will be building a profitable and self-sustaining niche website. I believe I can achieve this, and I’m going to lay everything out for you along the way.

I hope you’re excited about this as much as I am, and if you’re feeling overly zealous, you’re more than welcome to join along with me and start your own niche site. If you do, let us know by leaving a comment below.

I already have my domain name and hosting. For the Challenge, we had to sign up with a specific web hosting company, but now that the challenge isn’t happening, I decided to switch over to my regular hosting service, HostGator. Fortunately, I didn’t have a whole lot started, so it was just easier for me to start a fresh install of WordPress and import my FlexSqueeze settings once I have that installed.

Once my DNS settings change over to HostGator (should be no later than tomorrow), I’ll be able to move forward with the design and necessary pages that every website should have. More on that in a later post.

I’ll be making good use of the Nomad’s Guide to Make Money Online as I talked about in my how to find a niche market post. This guide is an excellent resource for anyone getting into niche marketing or wanting to make money online in general.

I was thinking about the best way to keep my niche site updates and “regular” posts separate from each other, or rather, make it so that you all know the difference and not get them confused.

What I came up with is creating a “Niche Site” category and adding all of my posts that have to do with the niche site to that category. Make sense? If you’re not sure which posts pertain to me building my new niche site or not, simply click on the Niche Site category, and only the posts dealing with that topic will show up. Easy enough, right? Great.

Just a heads-up, the next post dealing with the niche site will deal with choosing a domain name and setting up your web hosting account. In this post I will also reveal the niche I have chosen and the corresponding domain name I bought.

I think that’s all for now. Any questions? Leave them in the comments below…

It’s been rather warm here the past week, which I’m not complaining at all. The weather has been beautiful, and I’ve been trying to enjoy it while I can. Yesterday I had the opportunity to go on a hike with a friend up the Thousand Steps, a historical trail named after the thousand plus stone steps placed into the mountainside, located in Mt. Union, PA.

The view was amazing, and I was blessed to be able to enjoy God’s creation and all the wildlife that was around us. We brought along with us Marles, my friend’s dog. That dog is a beast and was in much better shape than both of us. We had a blast, though!

Do anything exciting this weekend?

I have another update to share with you that I hope will interest you as it relates to making money online, but I’ll share that at the end.

Right now, let’s take a look at how my income fared last month.

Income from ReplaceYourSalary.com

Total = $264.38

Income from Proofreading/Re-writing/Editing Services

It’s an honor for me to be able to provide a high quality and much needed service, and it’s been an honor serving my clients. You can learn more by visiting the link below.

Total = $30

Income from Micro Niche Adsense Site

My micro niche site keeps improving each month. Google Adsense earnings for this month from the site totaled $10.10. The site has already paid for itself and then some. When I find time to add more content I have no doubt I’ll be able to earn more.

Total = $10.10

Total Online Income

Total online income from all sources comes to…

$304.48

Update

I mentioned in previous post updates that I would soon be venturing into niche marketing. I’m not talking about micro niche sites where your main goal is to make money with Adsense, like my current micro niche site. I’m talking about building an authority site centered around a very specific niche or product and promoting either your own product or an affiliate product to make money online.

In my case, I’ll be promoting an affiliate product through Clickbank. What spurred me to get moving on this is because Daniel Scocco is holding a Webmaster Challenge where participants start a brand new website from scratch, and after the end of four months, whoever earns the most money from their site will take home the grand prize. The prize in this case will be $1,800. Second place prize will be $200.

I’m not going to reveal the niche or the domain name yet, as you wouldn’t see anything anyway. I don’t even have access to my cPanel yet as I had to sign up with a new web host as per the challenge requirements. I’m hoping to start building the site this weekend.

This is exciting for me, but it should also be exciting for you as well because I’m going to be posting my progress here on the blog as to how I’m doing with the site as well as what I’m doing. I’ll lay everything out on the table so you can see what exactly it takes to get a site up and running and making money.

I won’t hold anything back… I promise. Whatever I do, no matter how small, I’m going to share with you. I probably won’t be posting daily updates, but when I do update you, you’ll find out everything I’ve done up to that point.

Isn’t this exciting? You’ll be able to look over my shoulder, so to speak, through my success, or failure. If I make money, you’ll know about it. If I fail, you’ll know about it. This will be FREE, usable information that you’ll be able to put into action right away.

This will be just as much of a learning process for me as it is for you. I know what it takes and what has to be done, now it’s just a matter of putting what I know into practice for yet another new website.

Stay tuned for the first Webmaster Challenge update post coming soon as I’ll go through the process of setting up web hosting and getting a domain name, along with the necessary research that should be done beforehand.

See ya then!

If you want to learn affiliate marketing, then a real key to starting off the right way is building a squeeze page that converts. I understand that I have potentially just confused you with two terms you may not have heard, so let me explain…

A squeeze page is a page that’s whole intention is to capture email addresses. The point of this is to capture email addresses so that we as internet marketers can email offers and build relationships with those people who express an interest in what we sell.

The next term from that sentence that you need to understand is “conversion.” Now, conversion is the ratio at which people land on your squeeze page and submit their email address, to those that don’t. Obviously the aim of a squeeze page is to capture as many email addresses as possible to market to, so it is very important that it is converting at a good rate.

Now that we have that established, how do we create a converting opt-in as we learn affiliate marketing?

Let me start right from the beginning….

First, you are going to need to invest in a domain name. Now a domain name is your websites name, just like this websites name is ReplaceYourSalary.com. You can purchase a domain from a website called Namecheap.com and prices often range from $9 – $12.

Once you have bought a domain name, then you’ll need to invest in a hosting account. A hosting account is much like hiring a store in a mall. The internet is not free, so you need to hire space. Thankfully, hosting is dirt cheap to get and you’ll only be looking at around $3 – $12 per month. I tend to use Justhost.com for my hosting because they’re quick to respond and cheap.

Finally, you’re going to need to download what is called a “Free HTML Editor”. What a free HTML editor does is allows you to create nice looking squeeze pages and websites that you can then use to capture email addresses (which is the whole point of creating a squeeze page). I like to use the free HTML editor Kompozer. It’s easy to use and just makes sense.

If you would like to learn more about how you can use Kompozer to create killer squeeze pages you can download Sam’s free guide here.

I’m in the business of helping people, and this one way I can do just that. Let me help you make money online starting today.

NameCheap.com has become quite popular among internet marketers and online business owners. Their name alone is a good indication of why this is.

NameCheap offers cheap domain name registration. Nowadays it’s not uncommon to have more than one domain or website for your business or just personal interests. Having a place to manage and keep track of all of those domains in one place is absolutely critical.

With close to 50,000 new domains registered every single day (http://www.domaintools.com/internet-statistics/), there’s a lot of money to be made. Joining an affiliate program for a well established domain registration company is a good idea.

I personally can’t think of a better company than NameCheap.com. Ever since I had my domains transferred to them I’ve been more than pleased. Read my post on HostGator web hosting to read about why I use NameCheap and why you should too.

NameCheap has just started an affiliate program that allows you to earn 15% on new purchases that you refer. I’m very excited that they’re offering such a program, and I imagine this will boost their presence on the web even more.

Here’s what NameCheap can do for you:

  • Free URL Forwarding – Direct & Cloaked With No Ads
  • Free Email Forwarding (No Ads) – you@yourdomain.com -> ISP
  • Free Parking Page Included – Your Domain will not go unresolved
  • Free Transfer of Ownership
  • Free Dynamic DNS With Client
  • Free Security Features – Registrar Lock etc…
  • Full Control of Your Domain
  • Advanced Control Panel – One of the best in the industry
  • Custom DNS Settings – CNAME, A, MX, MXE Supported
  • Custom Nameserver Registration
  • Friendly Customer Support
  • Optional Whois Protection – Using WhoisGuard Product
  • Geotrust RapidSSL certificates for as low as $9.95 per year

If you’re not yet using NameCheap to take control of your domains, I highly recommend you do. Just go to NameCheap.com and get signed up. If you currently own a domain, or multiple domains, you can easily transfer them. They even offer coupon codes, so you can transfer or buy at a cheaper price.

I would also advise signing up for their affiliate program to start earning your share of new domain registrations that take place every day. It’s free to sign up and only takes a minute.

I would recommend that if you don’t use NameCheap to mange your domains, that you first transfer your domains over to them before signing up for their affiliate program. This way you can give a personal touch with your marketing efforts and have a better understanding of what they do and how they can help others.

People are more willing to sign up for something when they see a review from someone else who uses them. This applies to any affiliate program or product that you promote. It helps establish credibility and allows you to brand yourself in the process. That’s my marketing tip for the day. ;)

Let me know your thoughts on NameCheap’s new affiliate program by leaving a comment below…

Okay, this post is pretty personal, but there is a lesson here if you’re a marketer online.

Basically what happened is that one of my articles ended up on another blog. Thanks to Google Alerts I found out about. I highly recommend using Google Alerts to keep track of your name and domain name.

Anyway, what this blogger did was take my article from one of the article directories that it’s posted on and put it up on his blog. No biggie, right? Well at first I thought… “awesome, someone likes my article and wants to share it with their readers.”

Well after investigating, I find that, while the person aknowledges that I’m the author, he completely removed my resource box from the article. If you’re familiar with article marketing, you’ll know this is in violation of the author’s copyright.

This guy went even further by not only removing my links, but adding his own throughout the entire article. When I saw this I was quite irked to say the least, and still am.

Luckily (or maybe not) for me he has contact information on his site, so I emailed the owner and asked him to include a link to my site since he blatantly had removed it. Of course, I have yet to get a response. I also told him I would take further action if he didn’t comply (which seems impossible now).

I then went to Whois.com and looked up the contact information and web host for this domain. After finding out the host, it turns out you can’t contact them unless you have an account with them. How convenient, right?

I then decided to leave a comment on the page that my article is on. Well, I found out that the owner had conveniently deleted it. What’s the point of allowing comments if you’re just going to delete them anyway!

My last resort is to post about it here. People like this make me mad. They can’t come up with their own content, so they steal other people’s content and don’t give credit back by at least keeping their links. Yes, my name is there, but that’s just not enough, and it violates the terms of the article directories and the author.

You can view my article as well as check out the blogger who stole my content at http://www.getcashonline.org/work-from-home-online.

I absolutely hate thieves and hope this guy gets what he deserves. I know this problem is everywhere and can’t be avoided. It’s people like this that give the honest people a bad name.

What’s your experience with this? How did you handle it?

This little article will give some proper ideas for you to be able to choose and start a very profitable and enjoyable Home Business.

With so many different kinds of opportunities that can be found, it can be quite confusing on just how to make this whole Home Business phenomenon work for you, and earn you much income.

So, in order for you to prosper with your own business here are 3 steps you should always follow in order to make it all work for you.

#1 – Choose the right product or service to offer your future customers. It should be something you are comfortable with, plus having some knowledge of the product or service will be to your advantage. You will naturally have to do some research to help you with this.

In order for your Home Business to be enjoyable you must be able to pick a product/service that will work for you. Then your aim will be to earn money — ask yourself if this is the perfect product or service for you.

HOW DO YOU DO THIS? – Simple.

Choose the product or service that gets you excited.

Yep, that’s it. Make sure that you are happy with your choice, then you can honestly offer it to your buyers who will also be happy too.

This way, you will be able to get behind your decision and put your best effort into making your Home Business a true success for your future income, and you will have happy customers, too.

#2-Use time tested and proven marketing techniques

Do not try to “reinvent the wheel.”

You MUST use proven techniques that have been tested to give your Home Business the very best results. Your buyers will want these results too!

Some of these are: Place little inexpensive classified ads in newsletters, newspapers, magazine etc. As well as using powerful and professional sales letters that are simple and to the point.

#3-Be Professional

You must give the impression that your Home Business is not some hobby or passing idea. Remember, this is YOUR business and you will have to stay motivated. Do not forget also that there will definitely be some competition to be expected – you will have to deal with this also.

You are what you put into your Home Business. You may have to get a business license, and register with the BBB (Better Business Bureau). Also register your own domain name.

You may need to get some nice inexpensive letter head for correspondence. Even in these hectic times, people still like to receive letters on nice letter heads – they will appreciate your thoughtfulness.

So, there you have 3 ingredients that when used properly will surely build for you a profitable and very successful Home Business that can and will make you very proud.

In closing, let me also point out that a business will need some work on your part. As mentioned above, this will not be a hobby or a 1-minute passing idea, so be prepared to spend some time and energy to get your business up and running – SUCCESS WILL FIND YOU!

Have you ever wondered what all websites are linking to you? Or maybe you would like to know who all is using your articles. Maybe you want to know who is mentioning your name on their blog or website.

Keeping tabs on your name and domain are a great way to see who all uses your content, is talking about you, etc.

Here are some tools to help you do just that:

URLFan.com – Enter your website and see every blog that is linking to your website. Results are in real time and the content is cultivated through the millions of RSS feeds. Your website is ranked and given a number based on every other website. Go see where your website ranks in the blogosphere! This will also provide the content in which bloggers are using to link to you. Very handy, little tool.

Google Alerts – You don’t need a Google Account for this, but I suggest you get one anyway if you don’t yet have one. It’s fast and easy and well worth it for many different reasons. Here’s how Google Alerts works. Enter a search term that you want to receive alerts for. Enter your email address where you want the alerts to be sent. If you’re signed in this will be the email account associated with your Google Account. Any time a reference is made to the search term you entered, you will be emailed alerts for every instance of the term.

Here’s an example: My search terms I use are “Alan Mater” and “http://www.replaceyoursalary.com.” So, every time my name or domain name is mentioned, I receive an alert with a link to the web page that those terms are on. This helps me find out who is talking about me or linking to my website.

These two resources are great if you write articles because you will be able to find out who is using them and posting them on their website or blog.

If you’re not yet keeping tabs on yourself, you should be. It’s quick and easy, and you may just be surprised at the results.
