Having gifted individuals on your roster is great, but it doesn’t guarantee that your business will operate on its full potential. The only thing that can help you do this is having a proper team. This means that your company’s talent needs to work well together and this takes two things.

The first one is compatibility and the second one is team building. For this first task, you need to have skilled people in Human Resources who know how to recognize people with the potential to get along with others. As for the second thing, you will need some time to put together the occasional team building event.

Here are few tips on how to throw one.

Don’t Rely Too Hard on Physical Activity

First off, some people mistake a team building event with the idea of a sporting event, when in fact, they are nothing alike. Sure, sports can be fun, but they can also be a cause to a lot of frustration. Furthermore, not everyone in your company may be able to keep up with the pace, and forcing them to take part in such an event may significantly undermine their self-confidence. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t make your event physical, just make sure to put an emphasis on actual teamwork and fun, rather than one’s athletic ability. This is why games like paintball are a perfect team building activity.

Focus on Problem Solving

What you need to encourage during these team building activities is the art of problem solving. The way I see it, this is exactly what your team is supposed to do back at the office – solve problems. For this reason, you may want to come up with a plethora of team building problem solving activities. Here, you can turn to activities such as the great egg drop, shrinking vessel, reversing pyramid and even come up with a game of your own. In this way, you encourage logical thinking, team spirit and of course creativity. All the things you want in a team building event.

Make Mementos

During a team building event, everyone, or hopefully everyone, will have a great time. Unfortunately, everything has its end. The effects of these activities unfortunately aren’t as long-lasting as one would like them to be. Luckily, there’s a way to prolong the effect for at least a little while. All you need to do is take pictures and videos you can later show around the office, display on your website or even compose into a nice slideshow. This way, you will help everyone in your office regress to the event with nostalgia.

Indoors or Outdoors?

Finally, you need to make a choice whether to make this into an outdoor or indoor event. In a recent interview with people behind a bus hire Sydney agency, we learned that this depends on several factors. Most important of them is how much time you have. If you can set aside an entire work-day or have the ability to persuade your staff to do this on a weekend, then by all means, you should have a field trip. On the other hand, if you want to squeeze a 15-minute team building activity into every day, you might want to do this in the office or at a nearby park.

While to some, using work hours on anything other than work may seem as a waste of time, but people with a bit more office management experience know better. Making your staff into a team can make your productivity skyrocket as well as make your workplace into a more pleasant environment. Doing this the right way  is something both your business and your staff will definitely be thankful for.
