Are You Frustrated With Affiliate Marketing?
It is no secret that the vast majority of those who start a Internet home business become frustrated. It has been said that roughly 95% of affiliate marketers will either make no money or lose money and give up. However, there are many people who make a comfortable living from the Internet and a select few who make a fortune.
The vast majority of the people who are making money on the Internet, to include the so called gurus, are just regular people. They are not some kind of super geniuses, and many of them have struggled and been frustrated at some point with their own Internet home business. These ordinary people have succeeded with no special training, and if they can, so can you.
If the vast majority of the those who succeed with a Internet home business are just average people, then why are they so successful? The top colleges do not offer a major in affiliate marketing, and yet so many people are making money even in this current economy. What makes these people so successful while so many others fail?
The key difference is those who are successful with their affiliate marketing are focused and organized. It may seem pretty basic, but that is it. The tools needed to succeed are both plentiful and free for anyone with a computer. However, organizational skills and staying focused are skills that are not easily learned.
Many who join affiliate marketing or start a Internet home business have the misconception that there is little work to do and money will instantly come flowing in. Another segment of those who begin affiliate marketing realize there is work to do and then become overwhelmed trying every marketing method they come across and try every affiliate program they see. Eventually most become frustrated and blame Internet marketing as a whole and not their own lack of organization skills.
Those who are successful realized the importance of first understanding what it is they want to accomplish with their Internet home business and then made monthly goals to work towards. By understanding the what, it is now easier to focus on the how.
Rather than jump from program to program, the successful affiliate marketer will first focus on one or two affiliate marketing programs and then learn how to successfully market them.
Having a daily, weekly, and monthly list of what needs to be accomplished will help many to stay organized and to avoid distractions. It is easy to click that advertisement for the next chance to make money and lose your focus. The successful affiliate marketer knows this and focuses on the daily task and the long term goal.
It is not rocket science to be successful with your Internet home business, it just takes organization skills and staying focused on your daily and long term goals.

Hi Alan,
I think whether an internet marketer succeeds or fails solely depends on himself. One of the best quotes I came across is this “If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way; If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.”

Hey Peter,
Thanks for stopping by. That’s a great quote. Do you know who it was by?
This is a similar topic that Ben Pei recently posted about. It basically comes down to the person’s mindset. There’s also too much hyped up fluff and empty promises of fast riches. You and I both know it doesn’t work that way. It’s really a sad scenario and one that could easily be avoided.

great article but its so true that many do fail when it comes to affiliate marketing. It depends on the individuals willingness to succeed as well as the product their marketing. It also depend on the competitiveness of that particular niche as well along with their marketing strategies.

@almir, You’re right. You hit all the key factors very well. I would say the person’s mindset going in plus their determination is what really matters. If someone has the determination to succeed then they will learn the marketing strategies necessary to excel to the top.

You’re right, there is really no magic. You just need to follow a proven marketing plan. Lots of people procrastinate too much. Just do it!

The reason that I think that the 95% fail in affiliate marketing is they do not treat it like a real job. Make a schedule, whether it be part time 4 hours a day or full time. Keep a schedule and stick to it. Oh, and don’t expect to make much money the first year, instead learn from all of your mistakes, it will only get better if you do not give up

@dave Yes, having a business mindset and the earlier you treat affiliate marketing as a business you will definitely see good results from it. I mean, people are making a living just doing this, what separates them from those who fail is this key point. I was once there myself, luckily there videos like this that help people like me. When you find something makes you money, do more of it! Not much of a secret eh?

@Jamie,
Not at all. In fact, there is no secret! The real “secret” is that you just need to stick with it and give it everything you have. See it through till the end. Most never do.

Alan…I wholeheartedly agree with you for the most part. However, I get the impression from reading various forums most affiliate marketers are being misled by the “guru’s” into buying their make money online products by telling them affiliate marketing is fast and easy money with not a lot of work. The person buys the product, then finds out quickly that is not true. It is hard work and should be treated as a “real” business. But if you put in the time and effort you can be very successful.

@Doug, That’s a big problem these days for sure, and I agree that way too many people are being mislead.
You’ll never hear me say that it’s easy to make money and you don’t need to work hard. Quite the opposite. I know first-hand how hard it is.
While it’s easy to get started in affiliate marketing, it’s not easy to stick it out and not give up. Those who are patient and diligent at working the “business” will see the rewards. Treating it like an actual business and not just a hobby is key, so thanks for pointing that out.
I appreciate your input and hope to see you around. You may want to check out this month’s comment contest.
