Blogger Steals My Content UPDATE
Last week I made a post titled I Hate Thieves! Blogger Steals My Content! and ranted about a blogger who took one of my articles and deleted my links. I sent the owner of the blog an email via the contact page and hadn’t heard back.
Well today I received an email from the owner after two weeks of having sent the email. Here is what the blog owner said…
Thank you for your check my blog, I have already put your website link in my article with keyword “work from home online business” in my webpage http://www.getcashonline.org/work-from-home-online
Now obviously the owner doesn’t speak very good English, but you get the idea. This came as a bit of a surprise to me. Of course, I actually went to the page and made sure that he really did add my link. It’s there, along with the other million links he added of his own.
I need to correct him, though. He stated that he placed my link in “his article.” The fact is that he placed my link in MY ARTICLE. My link deserved to be there all along from the beginning when he decided to use my article.
This problem has been around forever, and it’s impossible to fight it completely. Most scraper blogs (blogs that scrape content from other sources, usually through RSS) steal content all the time with no recognition or link back to the source. I don’t think this is a scraper blog, but if you’re deleting links intentionally, then it might as well be one.
If you market your work from home business using article marketing then I’m sure you’ve been faced with this issue before. It’s not something you should get real worried about as it doesn’t happen too often, but it’s something you should be aware of. Not everyone is going to be honest. That’s just how it is.
There’s some rare cases, such as this one, where you can actually contact the owner and try to resolve the issue. This is the best case of action you can take. It really isn’t worth your time to pursue content thieves. Like I said, they’re the minority, not the majority.
Writing content for the web and marketing your online business comes with this risk. I just want you to be aware of it and realize that it’s going to happen. Fortunately for me I was able to revert this issue. If you want to eliminate this risk and get a much better reach for your articles then be sure to check out the Free Traffic System.
This also brings up another point and one I push quite heavily. If you haven’t heard of Google Alerts or don’t use it, you’re doing a disservice to you and your online business. It’s important to keep track of who’s talking about you and who’s linking to your websites. There’s no better way to do this than by setting up Alerts for your name and website domains. It’s fast and easy to do.
I hope my experiences here can help some of you. Don’t let this discourage you from writing content for marketing your work from home business. It’s an excellent way to get your name and business out there. Be sure to check out my Article Marketing Works video to see how its been helping me.

thats funny the guy that stole your content isn’t very intelligent if he were to steal the content and not inform you about it, it wouldn’t bother you but since he told you he did inform you about it so it does bother you but the sad thing is its still duplicate content if he uses it so even if he does use your article he’s still not going to achieve that much success whether he’s using it on his blog or business website but i feel your pain im sure people have stolen my blogs info as well but im only assuming so

@almir, Hi Almir, welcome to my blog. It’s great to see you here.
The owner didn’t tell me that he had used my article. I found out by using Google Alerts, and when I discovered he deleted my links, I contacted him about it.
You’re right, duplicate content isn’t going to help his blog much because Google looks for unique and non-duplicate content.
The only way to know for sure if someone is linking to you or using your content is to set up a Google Alert for your name and also your website URL. I wouldn’t have known except he used my name as the author, so when Google indexed that page, I was alerted that my name was used on a web page.
That’s why Google Alerts is so important because it helps you keep track of stuff like this.

The saddest of all is all he stories of when the duplicate ends up outranking the original…oh it happens, more then people think.

@Dennis Edell, You’re right, Dennis. I know a guy who is very adamant against people using his content for that specific reason. As writers we pretty much give up our rights to our articles because anyone can publish them on their sites. We can only hope that the people are honest and keep our resource box attached to it.

@Alan Mater, That’s one of the problems with blog post theft. If you’re not a guest blogger, who uses a resource box?

@Dennis Edell, Exactly! The least you could do is add some links through the body of your post. But then who’s to say they wont just delete them?

@Alan Mater,
There is the “trick” of having at least one link in the first paragraph. This mainly works with auto-scrappers though as they rarely if ever check the content afterward.
If someone is copy/pasting, then yes they will more then likely delete such links.

@Dennis Edell, I try to add a link in the first paragraph if it’s relevant and provides value of some sort. Most scraper blogs only pick up the first paragraph, so that’s a good idea. You’re right, this will only work with auto-scrapers.
A guy I know used to display a disclaimer before every post stating that if you’re reading the post on any site other than his, then the site stole his content. I wanted to show you an example, but it seems he took it down.

@Dennis Edell, That’s the first time I ever saw that. It’s not a bad idea to deter content thieves.

I had someone yesterday steal information from my website and post it directly on theirs. When I confronted the person, they said, I really liked you website, and didn’t know I couldn’t do this? What? After explaining I spend time and energy into my website he removed it.

@anna@frisco tx homes for sale, Hi Anna, thanks for visiting my blog. I think some people are just ignorant to common courtesy. At least you were able to resolve the issue. Stealing your site’s content I’d say is a form of flattery, although I highly doubt you felt that way.
Hope to see you around more often

Hi Alan,
I’ve faced such thefts too but just curious how did you find out since your link was deleted.

@Peter Lee, Hey Peter, I use Google Alerts for not only my domain name but also my name. The title included “by Alan Mater.” I always check out my alerts and see what’s going on, mainly out of curiosity. I LOVE Google Alerts and recommend everyone to use it. Plus it’s free.

I’ve experienced similar issues myself. Why are people so effin lazy? How hard is it to just write your own stuff. Not that hard. Not that hard… see I’m doing it right now.
Anyhow, thanks for the heads-up regarding the Google Alerts. Probably just the type of thing I need to help combat the problem of lazy website owners.

@Rob@Online Poker Rakeback, Hey Rob, thanks for visiting. I can’t say enough about Google Alerts. Of course you’re not going to find every instance of your stolen content, but it’s a big help.
You’re right, it all comes down to people being lazy. They figure why write their own content when they can get it from somebody else. Well, it just doesn’t work that way. Fortunately, these people are the minority, not the majority.

All this is certainly quite frustrating. Someone I once employed copied much of the design of my website, the chapters, layout and text, when they setup in business on their own. There were some sections where he had really only changed the colours and exchanged my name for his. Some people could really do better.

@David, Hi David, Thanks for stopping by and commenting. That is truly pathetic what your past employee did. What action did you take against him?
[Reply]
Thanks for your reply Alan. I was quite saddened by it and even felt sorry for him in a way. I bumped into him in the street not long after I made this discovery and confronted him with it. He went very red and said that I had embarrassed him and he could not write like I could, so I found myself moving the conversation on to other subject matters. I have known him for so long and am fond of him, so whilst I was not at all remotely happy about his actions I felt that I would rather have a friend than an enemy.

@David, I admire your attitude through all of that. I don’t know how I would react had I been in your situation, but you’re right, I’d rather keep a good friend than create an enemy.

I hate the laziness of content scrapers. The sad thing is there are many article services that will give them semi-original articles to post on their blog (like Unique Article Wizard) and all they have to do is hit the approve button in their wordpress panel. And if your blog has authority and is crawled by Google every minute then the original content will be picked up immediatly.

@dave, Thanks for visiting and commenting. I, too, hate how lazy some people can be and don’t want to do anything for themselves. Luckily my blog has some authority, and Google indexes my new posts almost instantly.

Agreed the original content is picked up with immediate effect when the blog has the authority…

@No Xplode, That’s usually what happens. And, Google knows about these sites and aren’t going to rank their content higher than the original’s blog.

I have had a number of geniune client comments copied from my site by other webmasters, who have then simply ignored my requests to remove the copied text!!

@Glenn@Nottinham photography,
That happens a lot. Most don’t care, and the problem I run into is there is no contact information to even get a hold of them.
The route I’m currently going is to file a copyright claim with the websites’ web hosts. This will result in either getting the content taken down or having the website completely removed.
