Free Directory Submission – Obtain High PR Backlinks
If you own a website then I’m sure you know the importance of obtaining backlinks from high PR sites. If you’re not aware of this, then listen up. It’s important to get as much free organic traffic from the search engines as possible. One indirect way to do this is through free directory submission.
There are literally thousands of web directories available for you to submit your site to. Some are obviously better than others, and you’ll want to focus on the high PR directories. Getting backlinks from high PR directories will not only increase your PR (Page Rank), but also increase your search engine rankings.
This means more traffic to your site. I’m always searching for ways to get more traffic from the search engines. It’s the lifeblood of any website or internet based business. As I was searching I came across a site with a huge list of high PR web directories to submit my site to. Some I have heard of and already have my site listed there, and others I haven’t.
I’ve been going through this list the last couple of days and making use of the free directory submission. Some directories require a payment, and others require a reciprocal link. I’ll settle for a reciprocal if I have to, but I opt not to when possible. I also don’t pay to be listed. There’s plenty of free directories to go around.
You can view this list by going to High PR Directory List. Now the point here is not to get traffic from the directories, although you might get some. The point here is to build backlinks to your site from high PR sites. When it comes to traffic and ranking well in the search engines, especially Google, it’s all about the backlinks. The more the better.
So do your website a favor and make good use of free directory submissions. Once approved, you’ll have built more high PR backlinks to your site and should see your site slowly moving up in the search engines. Remember to use your keywords in the Title of your submissions.

Links from directories may matter somewhat, but the best way to get links is to post unique quality content, often. Search engines love it and people will link to you because they like what they read.
Nice blog

@Josh@Alpha Men, Hi Josh, welcome to my blog. Yes, creating unique, high quality content is important. But, posting that same quality content to article directories can help even more. It’ll attract traffic from the directories and boost your rankings. Consider it as extra exposure for your business.
Thanks for the compliment.

@Jenny@Leadership, Hi Jenny, welcome to my blog. You’re right, it’s very worthwhile. As far as a submitter, I do all of my submissions by hand. It’s time consuming, but free.

@Thomas Hosley, Hi Thomas, thanks for visiting my blog. You’re right, they don’t have much weight anymore if you’re thinking of DMOZ or the Yahoo Directory. However, they’re still backlinks, and finding authority or high PR directories is going to help to some extent. As with anything, it should be a small part in your overall link building strategy. I wouldn’t discount them completely.

Thanks for the great list. It’s true you want to focus on high PR sites and weed out those directories with little PR value. Directories with very little PR can actually damage your rankings as Google often views these sites as link farm bages and often bans them.

@Dan, Welcome to my blog and thanks for commenting. I agree, some directories provide no value at all. There are many linking networks that you don’t want your site to be listed in for sure. Thanks for pointing that out.

Oh great! Thanks for that list! This is really a big help for me.

How important do you think link sharing is? I have a blog, is it important to get backlinks by sharing links with other blogs, or are there better ways?

@W Russell,
Good question! Sharing links don’t have a whole lot of value, at least to Google. I still do it occasionally depending on the site.
To build links, I recommend article marketing, blog commenting, forum posting, social bookmarking, guest blogging, web 2.0 marketing and getting links from high PR sites.
You may want to also check out this blog post, and at the end I link to some blog posts where I talk about how to get backlinks to your site.
Thanks again, and hope to see you around.
