5 Things You MUST Do To Make Money Online
Going off from what I wrote yesterday about why you will never make money online, I thought I’d provide some advice on what you can do to ensure that you DO make money online. This may have something to do with a reader unsubscribing from my RSS feed. I don’t know. Perhaps I struck a chord or was too harsh. Either way, the truth is the truth, and there’s no point in sugar-coating it.
So anyway, I want to give you some tips that will help you make money online, especially if you fall into any of the 3 areas that I posted about yesterday.
1. Learn the Skills – No this isn’t high school or college all over again, although it can feel like it at times (I didn’t go to college, BTW). There are skills that you will have to learn and obtain. This can be done through reading blogs or visiting forums. Find a few people that you trust and who are providing valuable information that you can apply to your online business. Yes, this will take time and actual work. Consider it homework, if you will. If you have to, get a mentor to ensure you’re going in the right direction.
2. Make Time! – This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Too many people complain about not having enough time to do things. Well that can be true to a degree, but there’s always ways in which you can better manage your time in order to make time for the things you say you don’t have time for. You’ll need all the time you can get building and marketing your online business, so you better learn to manage your time wisely.
3. Set Goals – I used to have a problem of not setting goals for my business. Now that I set goals, it encourages me to do what I have to do in order to reach those goals. Learn to set goals for yourself. They don’t have to be big ones, but set little baby goals that will act as stepping stones towards your big, ultimate goal.
4. Re-invest Your Money – Thanks to the internet you no longer need a lot of money to start your own business. In fact, depending on what you decide to do, you can get started for free. However, at some point, you’re going to want to re-invest the money you’re making back into your business. Use it to start a website, do some marketing, buy advertising, etc. Hire freelancers to do most of the leg work if you want. In simple terms, use your money to grow your business, otherwise it may stay stagnant.
5. Choose your programs carefully – I believe this is where most people fail. With so many programs and opportunities out there, choosing which one to go with can be very difficult. It’s important that you do your research before rushing into a decision. Once you do pick the program, believe in it with all your heart. If you don’t have faith in the program you’re promoting, no one else will either.

I think 4 is as much to blame as 5, respectively, they all want to make it but put nothing back in to grow stronger.

@Dennis Edell, I’ll agree with that.
Seriously, though, you’re exactly right. I see this happening a lot. In fact, I get emails from people almost begging because they think they’re doing enough when they’re really not, and they have nothing to show for it.
It’s sad really. I may have an upcoming post regarding this. Stay tuned!

I enjoy this young man’s onscreen personality. However, that said, even with his expertise, at bottom, my life experience tells me that in order to be commercially successful, after one has a nice blog, one is going to have to be able to offer deep knowledge or skill in some area over and above the crowd.
Without that, one is just one of millions, all competing for the same dollar.
For example, in his book “Crush,” Vaynerchuk speaks of being a wine consultant and capturing the wine consultant audience. Well, that’s all well and good, but how many millionaire wine consultants can there be? And, what’s more, where does one get such expertise. Well, of course, in order to be a wine connoisseur, one must travel the world, know everything about soils, temperatures, tasting, etc. Without that one is not a true expert. And, Vaynerchuk doesn’t even come close to the best French wine consultants in terms of experience and knowledge. But, he does have a grasp on selling techniques.
Being a true expert on the cutting edge takes years. One is not considered a wine expert in France until at least middle age in terms of knowledge and experience.
This brings me back to my point. And, that is, deep knowledge or skill. I get the impression that what many consultants are saying on the web is that, as long as the blog has a nice format, it doesn’t matter that a person has no deep knowledge or skill.
In my view, that just isn’t so.
When I see a very young face on the screen, I ask myself, what life experience has this person had a chance to absorb? How many volumes has the person had an opportunity to study? How many people at the top of his or her profession has he or she discussed his or her topic with?
All of that may be discounted by the young. However, I see so many bloggers every day with such hopeful faces and then several months later ask them about their businesses and they say, “What Business?” Clearly no one ever told them that if you are poor, and do not have a ten million dollar trust fund like a Kennedy, or high level connections, one actually must have deep knowledge or skill in order to succeed. Otherwise, one is truly just one of the mob without hope.
Let’s not fool ourselves. People will not reach for their wallet unless they know that they need the information you have to offer.
The multimillionaire consultants will all tell you that there is no magic formula for marketing or sales. Each product and each service is different. But, at bottom, one has to be truly at the top of one’s game to be successful, and that includes hard won, deep knowledge. Watching a few TV programs is not even close to a source for great knowledge and marketing judgment.

@Joan Nieri, Thank you for your very intriguing and interesting comment. I believe that one does need to offer some sort of skill or attribute in addition to helpful information to stand above the competition.
I’ve heard of the book “Crush It” before and was recommended to me to read. I haven’t gotten the chance to get a copy yet, but it sounds very inspiring.

These are great tips. Reinvesting is something people struggle with but it is necessary to keep building your business. That’s right making money online is a business. Not something you can do in a week and sit back and enjoy the fruits of your tiny labor. Work Hard = Getting To Play Hard

@Jonathan,
Exactly right! Reinvesting is something I’m just starting to do. I know most marketers reinvest and outsource tasks to others to grow their business, so it’s something I need to do as well.

Hey Alan good info here. I think a lot of people often get frustrated and then say I tried that and wasnt didnt make a dime without ever sticking to something until it works. I have found that proper outsourcing the things that I am not very good at has helped me tremendously. And also like you say to re-invest your earnings so that you can continually grow.

@Johnathan,
Very true. It’s a sad case that many get infected with. The only true cure is to have the drive and determination to stick with it! Re-investing is a huge part of any business, so making money online is no different.
Thanks for the input and hope to see you around more often.
